NewsGator Syncing

Display Errors

When there’s an error syncing with NewsGator—download or authentication error—it’s displayed in a sheet. (Previously it was just reported in the Errors list.) Depending on the error, the sheet may have a button for opening the syncing prefs, so you can do whatever to recover from the error.

Confirm before deleting subscriptions

If 5% or more of your subscriptions in NetNewsWire will be deleted by syncing, you are now asked to confirm that you want to delete all those subscriptions.

(Why not *always* confirm, even for just one deleted subscription? Because people find that highly annoying. They’d end up not reading the window—they’d just click the Delete button every time.)

OPML and merging

After importing an OPML file, NetNewsWire now merges subscriptions with NewsGator Online so the imported subscriptions are synced.

Don’t re-ask for password

From time to time, when NetNewsWire downloads a feed, the server returns a 401 when it shouldn’t—so NetNewsWire dutifully asks for your NewsGator username and password. But in this case the 401 should be ignored—we’ll get it on the next refresh.

(We now check for authentication problems at the beginning of a feed refresh session—so if there really is an authentication error, we get it then, not when actually downloading feeds.)

Delete queues

Deletes now use a queue—so if you delete a feed or folder, and there’s a network or connection error telling NewsGator Online about it, NetNewsWire will try again to tell NewsGator Online about it.

Scott’s Weird Force-Read Bug(tm)

Fixed a bug where sometimes unread items would appear as read erroneously.

Cancel Button

The cancel button on the modal sync window works in some cases where it didn’t work before. (It should work in all cases now.)

Suspended feeds bug fix

Fixed a bug where a 410 response from NewsGator would suspend a feed (but you don’t really want it suspended). (410 responses when not syncing still cause a feed to get suspended.)
