Changes since 2.1b33

NewsGator Syncing

Better handling of outages or unreachable via network

When NewsGator can’t be reached for whatever reason, a sheet appears telling you that it can’t be reached and that NetNewsWire will retrieve feeds from the original sources. It also says that it will attempt to connect to NewsGator again on the next refresh.

The sheet has a don’t-show-this-again checkbox, so you don’t have to see it every time.

Importantly, there is also an error indicator when NewsGator can’t be reached—it appears under the subscriptions list. Click it to attemp to sync (it does a refresh-all). So, if you’re fine with just the indicator, you can click the don’t-show-this-message checkbox when you see the sheet.

Also, we made a change which should cut down further on seeming reruns when NetNewsWire reads directly from the source when it can’t reach NewsGator.

First-run experience

The sync invitation window that appears after setting up an account now has a button to sync now—you don’t have to go to the preferences window first. (Which should make it a little more likely that people sync, which is cool. But it’s still optional: it doesn’t make you sync.)

Fixed a bug where a bogus demo-expired sheet would appear.

Help Book

Fixed a couple HTML errors Corentin found.

Added page on how to get support and a page documenting what data is sent to NewsGator. (See the Contents page in the Help book.)

Atom updated dates

NetNewsWire now handles the case of Atom entries that have an updated date but no published date. It was displaying the arrival date instead of the updated date—now it’s displaying the updated date. (Not a parser bug, a UI bug.)
