HTML Archive

NetNewsWire can create a searchable HTML archive of your news items.

This way you can keep items forver in an archive on disk, but you donŐt have to keep everything in NetNewsWire forever. This helps keep NetNewsWire less-cluttered and faster.

Another benefit is that HTML files can be read by any browser: youŐre not locked into NetNewsWire.

How to turn on HTML Archiving

Open the Preferences window, and click on General, then on the Archiving tab. Then:

  1. Save all your current items: click the Archive Now button.
  2. Tell NetNewsWire to save items in the future: check the box next to Save news items as HTML files on disk.

How to search the HTML Archive

When you want to find an old news item, choose HTML Archive from the triangle popup menu in the search field in the toolbar, then type what you find to find, then hit return.

HTML Archiving and Persistence settings have no effect on each other

Important note: though HTML Archiving and persistence are related features, they actually have no effect on each. Turning on HTML Archiving doesnŐt affect how NetNewsWire keeps items. It still keeps flagged items and clippings forever, and it still respects your settings for Keep news items in NetNewsWire (persistence settings).

We recommend keeping items in NetNewsWire for not longer than seven days, for performance and usability reasons.
