How to Set Up NewsGator Syncing

You can sync your subscriptions and read/unread states with multiple copies of NetNewsWireÑand also with NewsGator Online (a web-based reader) and with other aggregators on other computers and mobile devices.

Getting Set Up

  1. Choose NetNewsWire > PreferencesÉ. Click the Syncing icon.
  2. Check the box next to Sync using NewsGator. Choose NewsGator from the popup menu if itÕs not chosen.
  3. Click the Create Account, or Login to either create account or login to your existing account.
  4. NetNewsWire will create a Location name for you, but you can edit it if you want to.
  5. Click the Sync Now button.
  6. During this first sync process, NetNewsWire may ask you if you want to merge subscriptions, replace subscriptions at NewsGator, or replace subscriptions on this computer. Choose the option you prefer.

After your first sync, synchronization happens while refreshing feeds and in the background. Note that now you can read your feeds using NewsGator Online when youÕre away from NetNewsWire. You can also read your feeds on your iPhone.

Other aggregators that sync with NewsGator Online include FeedDemon and NewsGator Inbox.

Starting Over

If for some reason you want to start overÑif you want to do a first sync againÑclick the Starting Over tab.

Choose if you want to merge subscriptions, replace subscriptions on NewsGator Online, or replace subscriptions on this computer. Then click the Start Over buttonÑit will do a sync like the first sync.

After that, syncing happens when you refresh subscriptions and in the background.
