Subscribing and Unsubscribing
The default list of subscriptions is the tiniest fraction of whatÕs available. NetNewsWire comes with a big list of sites, and there are many thousands more available on the web.
How to subscribe to a site found on the web
When youÕre browsing the web, and you find a site you want to subscribe toÉ
- Copy the address of the site from your browserÕs address field.
- Choose .
- The address you copied should be filled in automatically. If not, paste it in the text field.
- Choose what folder the feed should go inÑor just have it appear at the top level of the subscriptions list.
- If you use NewsGator syncing, you can check a box that says whether or not the feed should be synced.
- Click the Subscribe button.
NetNewsWire will then try to find the feed for the site.
If it doesnÕt workÉ
If it doesnÕt work, then thatÕs because either the site doesnÕt have a feed or itÕs not listed in the standard way.
In that case, youÕll need to find the URL of the siteÕs RSS or Atom feed. Some sites link to it on their home page, sometimes with an XML, Atom, or RSS button. The buttons are frequently orange, which makes them easy to spot.
Once you have the URL of the feed, choose File > New Subscription, paste the URL of the feed, and click the Subscribe button.
Tips on finding feeds
Whenever you see a white-on-orange XML button you can click on it to go to the feed for a site. Then you can just copy the URL from your Web browser and paste it into the Subscribe dialog (as above).
Other sites may have a feed but not display any buttons. If you canÕt find a feed, email the webmaster for that site and ask if they have one and what its URL is.
How to unsubscribe
- Select the subscription in the Subscriptions pane that you want to delete.
- Choose A dialog will confirm that you want to unsubscribe.
Note: unsubscribing from a group deletes all the subscriptions inside a group.
