Sharing Subscription Lists

You can view the subscription lists of other NetNewsWire users on your local networkÑand you can let other people see your subscription list.

How to turn on sharing

  1. Choose PreferencesÉ from the NetNewsWire menu. Click on the Sharing toolbar icon.
  2. Make sure your name is as you want it to appear to other people.
  3. If you want, you can let other people know your email address, website name, and website URL. You can fill in those fields and click the Include your personal information checkbox.
  4. After youÕve entered everything you want to enter, click the checkbox next to Share your subscriptions list.

Note: If you have turned on your OS X firewall, you will probably need to open a port that will allow your copy of NetNewsWire to be contacted. The port number is 30874.

How to customize sharing

You donÕt have to share all your subscriptionsÑyou can pick and choose. HereÕs how to turn off sharing for a subscription:

  1. In NetNewsWireÕs main window, in the Subscriptions pane, select the subscription that you donÕt want to share.
  2. Choose Window > Show Info.
  3. Expand the Sharing pane by clicking the disclusure triangle.
  4. Uncheck the box next to Share this subscription to turn off sharing for this subscription.

If you turn off sharing for a group, that means that none of the subscriptions inside the group will be shared.

Viewing other subscription lists

You can see the subscription lists of other people on your local network who have turned on sharing.

  1. Choose View > Show Sites Drawer.
  2. Click the Sharing tab at the top of the drawer.
  3. Each personÕs name is a top-level item. Click the triangles to expand and collapse subscription lists.
  4. To email a person, or visit their website, click the corresponding link.
  5. To open a feedÕs home page, or to subscribe, click the buttons at the bottom of the drawer.
