Smart Lists

Smart lists show headlines from other subscriptionsÑbased on rules that you specify.

TheyÕre much like smart playlists in iTunes. Instead of lists of songs, smart lists create lists of news items.

How to create a smart list

  1. Choose File > New Smart ListÉ.
  2. A new window appears for your new smart list. Type a name in the Name field at the top.
  3. A smart list can have one or more rules. Choose fields and criteria from the popup menus; type into the text fields.
  4. To add a rule, click a + button. To delete a rule, click the - button next to it.

How to edit a smart list

  1. Select the smart list you want to edit in the subscriptions list.
  2. Double-click the smart list to edit it. (Or, choose File > Edit Smart ListÉ)
  3. The same window you use for creating a smart list is used for editing a smart list.

Basic example smart lists

If you want a smart list that shows all news items that include enclosures, create a smart list with one rule, where Enclosure URL contains /.

To create a smart list that shows every news item that refers to Apple, create a smart list with a rule where Title, Description, or Summary contains apple.

More complex smart lists are possible by adding rules. For instance, you could show every flagged item that refers to Apple by adding a rule where Flagged Status is flagged.
