Tag Subscriptions

Tag subscriptions show you news items from categories that you specify.

Say you like pictures of cats, and you want to see pictures of cats that people have posted to Flickr. HereÕs how:

  1. Choose File > New Special Subscription > Tag
  2. In the sheet that appears, type the tag (category) nameÑcats or whatever category you like.
  3. Choose which tag server you want to use, then click the Subscribe button.

What are tags? Sites such as Del.icio.us, Flickr, and Technorati gather content. People attach categories to that content. The categories can be anything, but in many cases people use a category name you would expect, such as ÒcatsÓ for cat pictures.

Flickr is a picture-sharing service; Del.icio.us is a bookmark-sharing service; Technorati is a general news and weblog service.

Editing a tag subscription

To change the tag or service provider:

  1. In the Subscriptions pane, select the tag subscription you want to edit.
  2. Choose Window > Show Info.
  3. In the Info window, expand the Tag pane (if necessary) by clicking its disclosure triangle.
  4. Edit the tag string or choose a new provider.

The subscription is not refreshed automatically right awayÑchoose News > Refresh to refresh it.
