Editing Blogger Weblogs
By Robert Daeley, 5 February 2003
This page describes how to configure NetNewsWire to edit your Blogger weblogs with NetNewsWire.
Add Weblog
In NetNewsWire, open the Preferences window and click the Weblogs button at the top of the window. Then click the Add Weblog button—or click the Edit button if you’re editing the settings for an existing weblog.
Basic Tab Preferences
In the Weblog Name section, type the name of your weblog. The Home URL should point to the homepage of your weblog.
Enter your Blogger username and password. NetNewsWire will add the combination to your Keychain if you turn on the Store password in Keychain option.
RPC Tab Preferences
From the System popup menu, choose Blogger. This will set APIs for you automatically—you don’t have to do anything in that section.
NetNewsWire can sometimes figure out what the value for RPC URL should be if you click the Autofill button. If not, enter http://plant.blogger.com/api/RPC2 as the RPC URL.
Blog ID is a number that identifies the weblog with which you are working. (Blogger accounts may have more than one weblog.) The easiest way to find out this number is to:
- Go to the Blogger homepage and log in if you haven’t already.
- Locate the Your Blogs box in the righthand sidebar and click on the name of the blog you want to use.
- The URL of the page you’re taken to will end in something like this:
blogID=1234567
That number is what you want to enter into Blog ID in NetNewsWire. Here’s a screenshot of a sample configuration.
Posts Tab Preferences
You could move on and set the Posts preferences. They’re a matter of taste and don’t actually affect whether or not NetNewsWire works with Blogger. You can always come back to the Posts preferences later.
Notes on editing
When editing, you’ll note that the Title and URL fields are disabled. This is because the Blogger API doesn’t support sending titles and URLs, just descriptions.
That’s true even with Blogger Pro.
A new Blogger API is being developed by Pyra, so this situation may change.
